As CKay prepares to usher in a new chapter with his forthcoming album BANGER BOY, one of the defining records of his career is once again in the spotlight.
Producer Tempoe recently shared images of a commemorative Spotify plaque recognizing “Love Nwantiti (Ah Ah Ah)” for surpassing one billion streams on the platform – a milestone that further cements the song’s place among the most successful African records in streaming history.

Originally released in 2019 as part of CKay’s CKay The First EP, “Love Nwantiti” was not an overnight success. Instead, the song followed an uncommon trajectory, gradually finding new audiences before exploding onto the global stage during the COVID-19 era, when short-form video platforms and changing listening habits reshaped the way music travelled across borders.

As millions of people around the world turned to platforms such as TikTok and Instagram during lockdowns, “Love Nwantiti” became one of the defining soundtracks of that period. Its infectious melody, emotional simplicity and universal appeal transcended language barriers, propelling the song into charts across Europe, Asia, the Americas and Africa, while introducing many listeners to CKay’s distinctive Afrobeats-infused sound.
The achievement has since evolved beyond viral success. The original version of “Love Nwantiti” has now surpassed one billion Spotify streams, making it the first Nigerian solo recording to reach the milestone on the platform. While the song’s various remixes had collectively crossed the billion-stream mark earlier, the original recording’s achievement represents a landmark moment for Nigerian music and highlights the enduring appeal of a song that has continued to resonate years after its release.

The recognition also shines a light on producer Tempoe, whose contribution helped shape one of the most influential African songs of the streaming era. Behind every global hit are the producers, writers and collaborators whose creative decisions often define a record’s longevity, and the Spotify plaque acknowledges that shared achievement.

Now, nearly seven years after “Love Nwantiti” first appeared, CKay finds himself looking ahead rather than back. His sophomore album, BANGER BOY, is scheduled for release on August 7, 2026, with four tracks already introduced to listeners ahead of the project’s arrival. The album signals the beginning of a new creative chapter as the singer-songwriter continues to evolve beyond the song that first captured the world’s attention.

Ahead of the album’s release, CKay has also offered fans a closer look at the creative ecosystem behind the project. Alongside unveiling the artwork and complete tracklist, the singer-songwriter acknowledged the producers, engineers, session musicians, backing vocalists, featured artists and creative contributors who helped shape BANGER BOY.
The 12-track project features collaborations with Mavo, Kidd Carder, Phyno, Maleek Berry and King Promise, while bringing together a team of producers and engineers whose collective contributions reflect the collaborative nature of contemporary African music-making.
From album artwork by Agada Deborah Love to recording sessions held at Boyfriend Music Studios in Lagos, the rollout highlights not only the music itself but also the community of creatives responsible for bringing CKay’s next chapter to life.
