Through her company, The Leading Vibe, Tems has joined the SDFC ownership group, marking an exciting step into the world of sports investment.

Her partnership with Pave Investments, an African private equity firm, is a strategic venture that also sees Pave’s Tunde Folawiyo and Kwamena Afful joining the ownership ranks.

In a statement, Tems shared her excitement about the opportunity, stating, “I am thrilled to join San Diego FC’s ownership group and to be part of a club that celebrates creativity, culture, and the power of community. Football has a unique way of bringing people together, and I am excited to help build something special in San Diego.”

Tems’ involvement adds to the diversity and depth of SDFC’s ownership group, which includes names like actress and producer Issa Rae, former Spanish footballer Juan Mata, U.S. Navy SEAL Jocko Willink, and MLB star Manny Machado.

This eclectic group reflects the club’s mission to foster youth development and international talent, highlighted by its collaboration with the Right to Dream Academy.

SDFC CEO Tom Penn also welcomed Tems to the fold, noting, “Tems is an extraordinary artist and cultural force worldwide. We are honored to have her join our club and bring her visionary perspective to San Diego FC. Her passion for empowering the next generation aligns perfectly with our mission.”

The MLS debut of San Diego FC is set for Sunday, Feb. 23, 2025, when they face off against LA Galaxy at Dignity Health Sports Park. The team’s first home game will take place a week later on March 1, 2025, at Snapdragon Stadium, with SDFC going head-to-head with St. Louis CITY SC.

Tems’ latest move follows a trend where high-profile figures have increasingly invested in sports teams. Similar ventures have seen the likes of Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s acquisition of Wrexham AFC, LeBron James’ stake in Liverpool FC, and Serena Williams’ role with Angel City FC.

A globally recognized artist, Tems recently claimed her second Grammy Award in February, after previously winning for her collaboration on Future’s “Wait for U.”

Known for hits like “Free Mind” and “Higher,” Tems is also celebrating her Oscar-nominated success for co-writing Rihanna’s “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

With this move, Tems proves that her influence extends far beyond the music industry—blurring the lines between entertainment and sport while paving the way for the next generation of cultural icons.
