Since his groundbreaking entry into the music scene in 2020, Asake has consistently given us banger after banger, further blessing us with his third album in three years, ‘Lungu Boy’.

‘Lungu Boy’ is a showcase of Asake’s evolution as an artist, as well as his heritage and culture, through which he masterfully blends traditional Afrobeats sounds, amapiano, and the fuji-pop sound he is popularly known for. In a promotional interview with Apple Music, Asake shares the significance of the album in telling the story of his evolution, and sharing a piece of his heritage with us.

“Lungu Boy explains my early beginnings in music and how it shaped me into the person I am becoming…The English word is ‘ghetto.’ As you can tell from the choice of collaborations, ‘Lungu Boy’ is my heritage and culture spreading to the rest of the world.”

The masterpiece of 14 songs follows his highly successful albums ‘Work of Art’ (2023) and ‘Mr Money With the Vibe’ (2022), which both earned him the top spot on Spotify’s charts for ‘Most Streamed Nigerian Artists’, and comes amid his tour that started in June with his energetic performance at Afronation.

His performance set for 16th August at Capital One Arena, Washington DC will be the first following the release of the album.

Leading up the to the album’s release, Asake dropped ‘Wave’ with Central Cee in June, which trended widely, followed by ‘Active’ with Travis Scott three days before the album release date. In just 16 hours, the song had already amassed 1 million streams on You Tube and became #1 on Spotify’s Nigerian charts, making it Asake’s third number 1 this year.

To add onto his list of wins, ‘MMS’ with Wizkid quickly grabbed the number one spot on Apple Music’s Nigerian charts in the album’s first day.

With other features on the album like Stormzy (UK) and Ludmilla (Brazil), “Lungu Boy’ celebrates the fusion of Afrobeats and international sounds, pushing creative boundaries and exploring new sounds.

“It’s a new field…I refuse to limit myself and strive to share my African heritage with the world through a blend that goes beyond just a sound.”

Asake is determined to continue pushing creative boundaries, stay consistent and share his African heritage with the world. We cannot wait to see what more our favorite Lungu boy has in store for us.
