As we usher in the new month, here are 5 songs from East and South Africa that we just couldn’t get enough of this July.

July has been a busy month for our African stars, with show-stopping performances around the world, new releases, appearances, and so much more. The artists have worked tirelessly to meet our demands, and their hard work truly shows in what they put out. We’ve crunched the numbers and taken note… here are the top 5 new and trending hits from East and South Africa this July

1. Wahala- Bien, Adekunle Gold, ShineTTW

Kenya’s very own bald king Bien teamed up with Nigeria’s Adekunle Gold, featuring Afro-Sentio artist ShineTTW to give us this masterpiece, so good they made a dance challenge out of it. The album that houses the track, ‘Alusa, Why Are You Topless?’, did a number on the charts, holding the #1 spot on Apple Music in Kenya, and #5 and #11 in Tanzania and Uganda respectively. They really “put a topless man on top” with this one.

2. Komasava (Comment  ça va) – Diamond Platnumz, Khalil Harrison, Chley

Tanzanian ‘simba’ took us to South Africa with his smooth vocals gliding over the Amapiano beat, alongside South Africa’s Khalil Harrison and Chley, who also co-wrote the song. In just a few weeks, the song garnered millions of streams from across the globe, resulting on the Komasava dance challenge, and even catching the attention of American singer, Jason Derulo, who was quick to hop on a remix.

3. Extra Pressure – Bensoul x Bien

The Kenyan Grammy Award winner applied “extra pressure” with this track, which is the third off his latest album, ‘The Party And The After Party’. the ‘Lion of Sudah’ achieved a major milestone when the album swiftly climbed to the top of Apple Music’s top album charts, just days after its release. It’s undeniable that ‘Extra Pressure’ is one of the greatest hits on the project, with hundreds of thousands of fans posting themselves dancing to the track.

4. Yebo Lapho (Gogo) – Felo Le Tee, Sotts Maphuma, Thabza Tee, feat. DJ Maphorisa & Djy Biza

Some of Amapiano’s greatest names came together to create a masterpiece, that is “still the biggest song in Mzah” (Mzansi). The catchy tune is commonly known for its groovy chorus, with a global wave of fans posting themselves doing the popular side to side dance that has become associated with the song.

5. Give Me Love – Mi Casa, Stonebwoy

In just 24 hours, beloved South African pop band Mi Casa and Ghanaian treasure Stonebwoy, wrote and produced this masterpiece. Distance was not an issue when it came to these musical legends creating a fine piece of art; Mi Casa were in Germany, and Stonebwoy was in Ghana. Nevertheless, they came through and gave us an amazing track, and we just can’t get enough!
