For African music, this evolution carries particular significance. The continent’s artists, producers, executives and creative professionals continue to play an increasingly influential role in shaping conversations around popular music, cultural exchange and commercial success on the international stage.

Over the past decade, African music has evolved from being recognised as an emerging force to becoming an integral part of the global music landscape. The continued expansion of international industry institutions creates greater opportunities for diverse perspectives to contribute to conversations around music advocacy, creative recognition and the future direction of the recording industry.

While membership within the Recording Academy represents just one aspect of the broader music ecosystem, its continued global expansion signals a growing acknowledgement that music’s future is being shaped by creators and professionals from every region of the world.

As African music continues to influence audiences across continents, the continent’s creative community is increasingly positioned not simply as participants in global conversations, but as contributors helping define them.

The Recording Academy’s largest-ever membership class is more than a milestone in numbers – it reflects an industry that is steadily becoming more representative of the communities shaping music today.
