Take a trip down memory lane as we delve into the highlights of the second edition of the Journey To The Baobabs festival, that took place in Kilifi, Kenya.
The exclusive two-day festival made an exciting comeback to Kenya’s green Kilifi coast with a lineup we’re sure glad we didn’t miss, composed of some of Africa’s best DJs from Nairobi, South Africa, and the Kenyan coast.

The festival proves not just to be a musical experience, but a safe haven where attendees get to let loose, make connections, be themselves, and have fun.
”This event is amazing, you get to meet lots of people from lots of places, and just relax, have fun, and yeah, say f*** it!”
Day 1 of the festival started off on a high note with Kenya’s Avocado.thedj hailing from Kilifi, Big Nyagz, Shangatatu from Mombasa, Ghedi back-to-back with Hiribae, who set the pace for the main act of the night, Suffocate SA from South Africa.
The energy remained high from sundown to sunrise, when the event finally wrapped up to prepare for Day 2.
”The interludes were really smooth moving from DJ to DJ, and honestly speaking, I danced the whole night”
Day 2 was off to a disappointing start, when the main attraction and headliner, Sun-el Musician of South Africa, took to instagram to announce the cancellation of his performance, due to mismanagement of flights by the airline he would be flying with.
Beneath the Baobabs management later announced that Kenyan favorites Euggy and Suraj would step in for a back-to-back set to replace the main act, salvaging the night and getting fans excited once again.
Despite the minor drawback, the DJs brought their A-game and the attendees brought their best energy to the party. The evening kicked off with DJ Miss Ray, who gave an uplifting message in her set, and was later joined on stage by Kaz Lucas for an unforgettable pole dance performance. KNVL, Soulfud, Lemi and Vidza kept the fans dancing all through the final night of the festival and into the sunrise
”I’ve been attending since the very beginning, when this was still at Distant Relatives, and it’s really good to see the growth of the festival.”
The second edition of Journey To The Baobabs was a great success to say the least, and has definitely set the pace for an even bigger and better festival in December, when we make our way back to Kilifi for Beneath The Baobabs from 30th December 2024 – 1st January 2025.
