FANCY FINGERS SENDS A LETTER TO KENYA IN LIGHT OF RECENT UNREST IN THE COUNTRY
The Kenyan guru took to social media expressing his sadness about the current situation in Kenya, where several atrocities have been committed against innocent citizens, and announcing an album to shed light on the issue, calling for better governance in the country.
Following the recent and ongoing protests against the government by largely Gen-Z Kenyans, the country has experienced a wave of police brutality, manipulation from government officials, extrajudicial killings, abductions, refusal of accountability, and censorship, as the movement has been majorly coordinated social media.
The Kenyan guru took to social media expressing his sadness about the current situation in Kenya, where several atrocities have been committed against innocent citizens, and announcing an album to shed light on the issue, calling for better governance in the country.
Polycarp Otieno, more commonly known by his stage name Fancy Fingers, the former guitarist for legendary Kenyan band Sauti Sol, is a Grammy winner and holds the title for ‘Most Decorated Guitarist in Africa’. He has been actively involved in the ongoing protests in the country and has been just as vocal on his social media pages.
Earlier in the month, Fancy Fingers shared a post on his Instagram teasing one of the songs off the album, ‘#TukoWengi’, directly translating to ‘we are many’, which was a slogan chanted during the protests in response to police attempts to disperse the crowds.
“I will use my voice and talent to always speak up for what’s right and make art to unite, elevate, and impact our lives positively. Viva!”
The star, emotional about the massacre that had happened just days before, announced the album on his Instagram on 12/07/24, titled ‘#WeWillNeverForget’. The album features other Kenyan names like Lisa Oduor, Joy Ocholla, and Njoki Kairu, coming together to create what will undeniably be a legendary project.
“I wrote this song from a very painful place… enough is enough. ‘#WeWillNeverForget’ album coming soon”
The album is symbolic of the revolution sweeping through Africa, with more countries speaking up against poor leadership and demanding better for themselves.
We are here for this movement and hope to see more artists using their voices and platforms for the good of our motherland! What are your thoughts?
