Despite disappointing absences and early closure of the festival, these artists managed to salvage the weekend with rich and explosive performances

Fans arrived at Finsbury Park in their masses eager to have a good time at the 2024 Wireless Festival, and the lined up artists surely delivered. The festival showcased a series of electrifying African acts, starting with Asake on Saturday the 13th.

His band, The Composers, opened his performance with a rendition of Fela’s ‘Water No Get Enemy’, before smoothly transitioning into hit song ‘Organise’, as he appears from backstage packed with energy. Asake’s performance was quite literally fire – he picked up a flame thrower, and ran into the crowd during his hit ‘Amapiano’, and gave a fiery performance up to the very end.

After a series of disappointing events for fans since the start of the festival, Rema gave an exciting performance to redeem the weekend on the last day of the festival, Sunday 14th. Starting with the melodic ‘Soundgasm’, he got the crowd jumping, before a surprise performance of ‘Benin Boys’ accompanied by fellow hitmaker Shallipopi. He was later joined by Darkoo for a performance of ‘Favorite Girl’, and closed his performance by welcoming Don Toliver, a last-minute replacement for Tyla, on stage.

On the last day of the festival, South African DJ and performer, Uncle Waffles, once again put Mzansi on the map with a show-stopping performance together with her backup dancers. The ‘Wadibusa’ hitmaker had the crowd in a chokehold as she showed off her impressive dance moves – she never fails to deliver a show. Later on, she took to Instagram to celebrate being the only DJ headliner on the festival’s lineup, the only Amapiano act, and the first DJ on the main stage in eight years.

“Only DJ headliner & first DJ to play the main stage in 8 years. Only Amapiano act. And I know there are so many more to come. Thank you Wireless Fest. So much more to share… AMAPIANO TO THE WORLD!”
