🇿🇦🎺 Hugh Masekela Is The Horn That Sang o 🇿🇦🎺 Hugh Masekela Is The Horn That Sang of Freedom 🎶🌍

From township jazz roots to international stages, Hugh Masekela didn’t just play music — he played a movement. The South African trumpeter, composer, and activist used his horn to fight apartheid, amplify African heritage, and blend soul, jazz, and indigenous rhythms into timeless storytelling.

With classics like Stimela (The Coal Train), Grazing in the Grass, and Bring Him Back Home (Nelson Mandela), Masekela became the sound of resistance, the voice of the exiled, and the spirit of a continent rising in dignity and groove.

Swipe through as we honor a legend whose music marched, danced, and dreamed for us all. 🎷🖤

Grammy-winning global superstar artist Burna Boy h Grammy-winning global superstar artist Burna Boy hosted an exclusive listening party in London for his forthcoming eighth studio album, No Sign of Weakness.

Last night in London, @burnaboygram gave select guests an exclusive first listen to his upcoming eighth studio album, No Sign of Weakness — and let’s just say: he’s not here to play.

The album features previously released singles such as “Sweet Love,” which combines reggae and R&B elements, and “Bundle By Bundle,” an uptempo track produced by @_telz that captures the festive spirit of Nigerian celebrations.

The project features bold sonic shifts, global features (Stromae, Travis Scott, Aya Nakamura, Shaboozey), and a genre blend spanning Afrobeats, R&B, hip-hop, and subtle Francophone infusions. From the reflective “Sweet Love” to the uptempo “Bundle By Bundle,” Burna flexes depth, range, and unmatched vision.

The album doesn’t have a public release date yet, but if this session was anything to go by, the African Giant is locked in.

Monday Motivation: When Preparation Meets Purpose Monday Motivation: When Preparation Meets Purpose
At Music Custodian, we believe every new week deserves a powerful reset for the mind. Today’s message is about faith, timing, and the quiet strength of perseverance.

“God doesn’t always give you what you want—He gives you what you need. Sometimes, those align. Sometimes, they don’t.”

This week’s reflection reminds us that broken moments often break us open, not down. That walking in faith is like crossing an invisible bridge—you may not see the path, but you know it’s there. And when your preparation meets the right moment, that’s when purpose becomes miracle.

Stay patient. Stay ready. Your shot is coming.

If one thing was clear at Met Gala 2025, it’s th If one thing was clear at Met Gala 2025, it’s that music, art, and fashion are inextricably linked – especially in Black culture. Many outfits drew inspiration from musical eras: Teyana Taylor’s Harlem zoot suit channeled jazz legend Cab Calloway, Alicia Keys’s braids and do-rag combo nodded to hip-hop streetwear!

The Met Gala 2025 was more than a night of fashion—it was a coronation of Black style, diaspora elegance, and cultural power.

From Rihanna’s regal reveal to Burna Boy, Tems, and Diana Ross redefining the red carpet, this year’s theme—“Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”—wasn’t just honored, it was embodied.

Rihanna made a grand return to the Met Gala, revea Rihanna made a grand return to the Met Gala, revealing her third pregnancy in a stunning Marc Jacobs ensemble that paid homage to the event’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.”

Arriving fashionably late, as is her tradition, Rihanna donned a deconstructed tuxedo-inspired outfit featuring a cropped wool jacket, a pinstriped skirt with a dramatic bustle, and a polka-dot cravat. Her look was completed with an oversized hat designed in collaboration with Stephen Jones, embodying the essence of Black dandyism.

This appearance marks Rihanna’s third public pregnancy reveal, following her 2023 Super Bowl halftime show announcement. She and A$AP Rocky, who co-chaired this year’s gala, are already parents to sons RZA and Riot.

Rihanna’s presence not only highlighted her personal joy but also underscored the cultural significance of Black fashion and motherhood on one of the world’s most prestigious red carpets.

On May 5, 2025, the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s steps transformed into a vibrant tableau of style and cultural homage as the Met Gala unveiled its theme: “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style.” This year’s exhibition and accompanying dress code, “Tailored for You,” paid tribute to the rich legacy of Black dandyism, exploring its profound influence on fashion and identity within the Black diaspora.

As the cameras flickered and live blogs rolled in, what became evident at Met Gala 2025 was that fashion is no longer separate from the musical and cultural worlds it has long borrowed from. With gospel harmonies opening the night and music’s most fearless faces leading the charge, this year’s Met wasn’t just a red carpet—it was a full-blown cultural crescendo.

MONDAY MOTIVATION: Start Where You Are. Use What Y MONDAY MOTIVATION: Start Where You Are. Use What You Have.
🎬 Inspired by filmmaker Ava DuVernay ( @ava )

This week at Music Custodian, we’re reminded that there’s no such thing as “too late”—only perfect timing with the right perspective.

Ava DuVernay didn’t pick up the camera until she was 32. No film school. No traditional path. Just lived experience, heartache, love, lessons—and the boldness to start anyway. At Sundance, she stood next to directors a decade younger, but she didn’t see lack. She saw life as coursework. She saw power in her own journey.

“Even now, I don’t have the budget of a Christopher Nolan… but what do I do? Not make movies? No. I make them how I can. And they still exist in the world.”

Whether you’re chasing a dream with less than others, starting late, or creating without a blueprint—remember: your story, your rhythm, your lane. Perspective is your power.

🎯 This week, create from abundance, not absence. You’re not behind—you’re just beginning from where you’re meant to be.
