Ebne Hakim Releases “Tsehaye,” a Stirring Ode to Longing and Hope

Rising Ethiopian artist Ebne Hakim returns with his latest single, “Tsehaye,” a poignant meditation on love, memory, and the quiet strength of hope.

The track—whose title means “sun” in Amharic—is a deeply personal ballad wrapped in warm melodies and inspired by the energy and rhythms of Tigrigna traditional beats. Released during Ashenda, an annual cultural festival led by young women in northern Ethiopia, Tsehaye arrives as both an emotional confession and a celebration of heritage and light.

At its core, Tsehaye explores the story of a man waiting—perhaps endlessly—for the return of
someone who once lit up his world. The lyrics are filled with longing, asking, “Will she rise like the sun
before tomorrow comes?” as a way of holding onto the hope that love, like the sun, will rise again.

“As we dare to dream of tomorrow, something new is seen on the horizon. A tune that radiates
hope, celebration & unity as we all rise like the sun to witness.”
Says Ebne Hakim.

The track, produced by Nuhi, draws from the soaring rhythm patterns of Tigrigna music, blended
with alternative R&B tones—creating a fusion that’s both rooted and futuristic. Through this, Ebne
channels the spirit of Ashenda: a uniquely Ethiopian festival where girls and young women dress in
traditional white cotton dresses, braid their hair with ornaments, and gather in the streets to dance,
sing, and celebrate their identity and joy. Tsehaye stands as a sonic companion to this season—a
tribute to resilience, beauty, and cultural pride.

With Tsehaye, Ebne Hakim continues to define his place as one of Ethiopia’s most emotionally
expressive voices—blending personal storytelling with traditional roots and a forward-looking sound.
As Ethiopian music gains momentum on the global stage, this release captures not only the heart of a
man but also the heartbeat of a people.
