Today, @sonymusic_wa welcomes women (SWIPE to see) Today, @sonymusic_wa welcomes women (SWIPE to see) across the creative and entrepreneurial ecosystem to Bloom & Bloom 2026 ; a two-day cultural convening in Lagos designed to move the conversation from visibility to value.

From The Greenhouse Sessions at @af.lagos , where leading voices across music, finance, law, media, and entrepreneurship share real blueprints on ownership, wealth-building, and sustainable creative careers — to contributions from women actively shaping Africa’s present and future — today will be not just about dialogue, but about structure. About building systems that allow women not just to participate in the industry, but to define it.

And tomorrow, the icing on the cake - The Grand Bloom.

An immersive close at Wings Complex, Ozumba Mbadiwe , where community, culture, and celebration converge through live performances, connection, and a shared sense of progress.

Because beyond the panels and conversations, Bloom & Bloom stands as a reminder that when women are empowered intentionally, the entire ecosystem evolves with them.

As official media partners, Music Custodian is proud to document, amplify, and stand within this moment.

Kenyan singer-songwriter @njerae is preparing to o Kenyan singer-songwriter @njerae is preparing to open a new chapter with her upcoming single “Ingia Ndani”, arriving tomorrow March 13.

Produced by Kenyan hitmaker @hendrick_sam , the record leans into the soulful Afro-Indie sound that has defined her rise while exploring the vulnerability of letting someone fully into your emotional world.

Translated from Swahili as “come inside,” the song reflects the universal desire for deeper connection - the moment when emotional walls begin to soften and love is invited in.

For Njerae, it’s both playful and honest: a reminder that true intimacy requires courage.

Following the success of her ‘Four Letter Word (Deluxe)’ EP and the global momentum behind “Aki Sioni,” @njerae continues to cement her place as one of East Africa’s most compelling contemporary voices.

We anticipate “Ingia Ndani” as it drops March 13.

Rhythm Is Language: Why Yoruba Percussion Still De Rhythm Is Language: Why Yoruba Percussion Still Defines African Sound

As we step into a new month, it feels important to return to something foundational - rhythm not as background, but as language.

“In Yoruba cosmology, there is no separation between melody and rhythm” . As percussionist Sola Akingbola explains, “once we establish the rhythmic theme, the melody comes out of that rhythm.” The drum does not accompany the story. It is the story.

This philosophy traces back to instruments like the gangan (talking drum), bàtá, and omele, which function not merely as percussive tools but as tonal communicators. Because Yoruba is a tonal language, the talking drum mirrors its inflections, allowing drummers to articulate proverbs, praise names, ancestral calls, and coded messages. The rhythm holds semantic meaning. It speaks. It remembers.

For centuries, percussion in Yoruba tradition has operated as a living archive - used in ceremonies, spiritual invocations, communal gatherings, and rites of passage. The drum is not entertainment. It is continuity. Artists like Babatunde Olatunji carried this consciousness into global spaces, merging Yoruba chants with Western frameworks and reminding the world that African rhythm carries spiritual and communicative depth.

Contemporary musicians such as Sola Akingbola continue to expand this lineage, blending traditional Yoruba rhythmic philosophy with modern sonic landscapes. When he speaks about rhythm becoming a “mantra” - something you stay inside until it opens - he is describing something deeply African: that creativity emerges from immersion, from repetition, from listening within the pocket.

And this is where it connects to us.

At Music Custodian, we speak often about documentation, infrastructure, and institutional memory. But at the core of African music - beyond streaming numbers and awards - is rhythm as language. Our sounds are not accidental. They are encoded. They carry ancestral syntax.

At our core, we are not just listeners. We are custodians of a rhythm that speaks.

The question is no longer whether African creative The question is no longer whether African creatives can win awards.

The real question is:

Can African institutions build systems strong enough that awards become inevitable - rather than exceptional ?

Afrobeats answered that question sonically. Film is now answering it visually.

And the task ahead is not celebration alone , it is construction.

@kingxdavies BAFTA win for My Father’s Shadow is a cultural signal that transcends a film moment. Years ago, Afrobeats built global dominance long before institutions caught up. The awards came later. Recognition followed momentum.

Today, African cinema is tracing that same arc - rooted storytelling, diaspora bridges, and global resonance forcing institutions to respond.

From sound to screen, African creatives are no longer asking to be validated - they are building systems that make validation inevitable.

The real conversation is no longer about trophies, but about infrastructure, ownership, and permanence. Culture moves first. Institutions adjust.
